If that is the plan to go with the ideas of last time. Look for a good crowd of no were not, when they start to talk about it.
I don't mind it being planned out and done right. But don't screw the kids over. No trailers and no quick fixes. If so look for a long time of people standing in the way.
This board i would hope has learned from what others did wrong.
Maybe we will see. If not they will hear it no different than the others who they followed after and so will the school Superintendent.
And i can't even think anyone would consider building anything on top of perviously deeped mined land.

[img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]OK, I thought they were gonna toss the last set of plans...But CFP 9/28 says HS community meetings planned, BOS asked that the cost of renovating the 6 HS be presented in May 07. Timeline was set by the school board to have their part done by Dec 06 ,Jan, 07. "Central office adminstrators have been working with architecture firms to update plans for schools that been evaluated in the past, Killough noted. The firms that initally examined those four schools are updating previous renovation plans" The mobile homes/portable classroom belonged to a one meeting idea, that sorta got shot from the saddle. I don't think the mobiles will make it back. But I don't this ostrich is gonna fly. Oh well, I get off work at 3:00 Pm ,at least. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] We might want to consider moving the advanced classes out of the high schools and into the colleges, it is a good way to save cash and get the kids started in college. It won't matter to the county about the class size then and the discipline can be handled better.

That is an absurd amount.
You could build 3 new schools, at the cost it would take to renovate 6 old schools, and then have to do it again, in 20 yrs.
I guess they didn't learn from the last round of people saying no we won't stand for this or that.

That goes back to what we were talking about, can we afford to renovate or are we better off to build new schools?

I still say 3 new schools. And i always will. Our first steady enrollment in years. What happens when it drops. And it will. Thing here go as the coal business goes. Sad to say but many know it's the truth.
Build 3 do it right and at a cost the people can afford. And with no kids in trailers, yeah i can think about that and go with that.
Anything else and i'll be there saying no with the rest.

One should be distrustful of plans and studies done by hired consulting groups. A brutal truth- these companies frequently come up with the results desired by their paymasters. The Bashamites used every trick to pry money out of the taxpayers of Wise County and no taxpayer should depend upon any study or plan formulated under that regime.

My children do not attend J.J. Kelly (kinda hard for an 8 and 10 year-old). All schools around here are in the same shape as Kelly. These schools are 50 years old or older. My children are doing ok education-wise, but unlike you I can see far enough ahead to understand that the opps are limited there. If that school is still open when they are high-school age, obviously I will have a decision to make.
